Wado Ryu 2.0/Syllabus
Thoughts
The first Kyu-Grades should be very easy. The 6th Dan should be at an extrem high level like Kendo 8th Dan or like 1st Kyu Instructor in Wado Kai.
The System should be simple and logic.
There will be no one person Kata, and only the necessary Yakusoku Kumite.
So, the Yakusoku Kumite is as follows:
- Ura no Kumite 1-24
- Idori 1-15 (from the Otsuka-Family, 10 old, 5 of the 7 new)
- Kumite no Ura 1-6
- Kyusho no e Kogeki 1-5
These are total 50 Yakusoku Kumite.
The 24 Ura no Kumite are from the 8th Kyu to 1st Kyu, 3 per grade.
The 15 Idori are distributed from 1st to 3rd Dan, 5 per Dan.
The Kumite no Ura are on the 4th Dan, the Kyusho no e Kogeki are at 5th Dan.
Examinations
- Each Person with a Dan can take gradings alone, up to 4 Grades below his/her own grade.
- 3 x 4th Dan can take exams up to 1st Dan.
- 3 x 5th Dan can take exams up to 3rd Dan.
- 3 x 6th Dan can take exams up to 5th Dan.
- 3 x 7th Dan can take exams up to 6th Dan.
- The three highest graduated people can take examins up to 6h Dan, even if they are below 6th Dan.
Example: For 1 test to Shodan (1st Dan), the examinator has to be at least 5th Dan or 3 people with at least 4th Dan. For Test to 4th Dan, it has to be one person with 8th Dan or at least 3 people with 6th Dan.
The 6th Dan is the highest Examination, the higher grades will be automatically granted (see below).

Kihon Waza has to be changed as follow: 1 Tsuki, 1 Keri and so on from 8th to 1st Kyu. Categories with only 6 start at 6th Kyu.

The movements of this person and her understanding of the underlying principles has to be on a high level and very naturally. |
| 7. to 10.Dan | 40 | 10 years after 6h Dan, the 7th Dan is automatically granted. 10 years later 8th Dan, 10 years later 9th Dan, 10 years later 10th Dan. This stops at the age of 80.
So a person who reaches 6th Dan at age of 60 will get 7th dan 10 years later, but never 8th Dan (because this person has reached over 80 years of age 10 years after 7th Dan). A Person who reaches 6th Dan at age 35 (startet with this style at age 5) will reach 10th Dan at age 75. The assumption here is, that from a certain level, this person will develop there skills and understanding forever, as long this person is able to do so. And it need no longer any examination for this, because the level of Godan is so high, that the person understands Wado Ryu full. |
One idea is also, that the founder itself starts at 9th Kyu on Apr 1 2034 (100 years after the founding of Wado Ryu, SOURCE?????) and gets automatically promoted after the minimum time. So the Founder of this new training method or organisation would get Shodan in 2038, and Godan in the year 2054, indepemndent from his real Wado-Ryu Grade (which will be around Shodan in the year 2034).
