I suggest a simple system of 5 Kyu and 5 Dan or 8 Kyu and 8 Dan.
So that people don't get to impatient, we need maybo 8 kyu and 8 dan.
Examinations or tests for the next Kyu Grade can be taken after 3 months up to the 3th Kyu (total 18 months minimum).
* 2nd Kyu: minimum 6 months later
* 1nd Kyu: minimum 12 months later

| Minimum Age is (Dan minus 2) multiplied with 10. There is no age limit before Godan. For Example: Godan has minimum of 25 Years Training and is a must be at least 30 years old. Hachidan at least 40 years of training and 60 years old.

The technical program goes like this:
8th Kyu: Sonobazuki
7th Kyu: Junzuki
From 6th to 1st Kyu the examinee has to show always the next one technique of Tsuki, Keri, Uchi and Uke, like all the numbers one on 6th Kyu, numbers 2 on 5th Kyu and so on till all numbers 6 on 1st Kyu:
{{Wado 2 - List of Kihon Waza}}
Then we have the following Yakusoku Kumite:
Kihon Kumite 5 & 10
Ura no Kumite ? & 23
Idori X & Y
Kyusho no e Kogeki 1 & 2
4rd Kyu:
Ura no Kumite ?
3rd Kyu:
Ura no Kumite 23
2th Kyu:
Kihon Kumite 5
1th Kyu:
Kihon Kumite 10
Shodan:
Idori X
Nidan:
Idory Y
Sandan:
Kyusho no e Kogeki 1
Yodan:
Kyusho no e Kogeki 2
Godan and higher:
Show all the 8 Yakusoku Kumite and for each of the 4 types create and show 5 different drills that perfectly in to the category. For example create 5 new Kihon Kumite, which uses exact the same pattern and principles from the number of attacks to the end. By Kyusho no e Koegki you have to clearly show also the kuzushi at the end and so on.
From Shodan you have also to show how to use them in Jiyu Kumite and explain your understanding of the principles.
From Sandan you have to show variations on command like "Show how the technique has to be changed when the attack is Jodan instead of Chudan". Variations may inlcudie different side (left/right) of attack, Height (Jodan/Chudan for Tsuki, Gedan/Chudan/Jodan for Keri), mawashizuki instead of tobikomizuki and so on.
Then there is a list of other techniques which has to performed in Kihon form and on a partner:
# Ashi Barai
#
Joint locks:
From 5th to 1st Kyu one joint lock of each type more (for example: 4th Kyu is 2 wrist locks, 2 leg locks and so an. By the 1st Kyu the number is at 5 for each lock type.
The categories are
# Wrist locks
# Leg locks
# Arm locks
# Small joint manipulation
By all the Dan-Grades you have to show all 24 Kihon Waza, minimum 20 Joint locks on the partner , all the 'other techniques'.
From all the above Information you see, which techniques are on the test.
Examples:
8th Kyu
Sonobakzuki
1st Kyu
6 Kihon Waza (1 Tsuki, 1 Keri, 1 Uke, 1 Uchi)
Kihon Kumite 10
Sandan

Show variations for other attacks on request of the examinatiors.

Revision as of 18:25, 20 January 2026

Wado Ryu 2.0 is a temporary name for an idea of a new training method and a new orientation of wado ryu.

The basic Idea

The basic idea is to concentrate on the real core of Wado Ryu, which is its principles. And at the same time focus more on real fighting and real self defense.

For this, the idea is to get rid of the solo kata and concentrate more on kumite drills.

We would also reduce the number of kumite drills, to focus more on different techniques.

Instead of 10 Kihon Kumite, we would only have 2, but train them in all sort of variations, so the principle gets more clear.

Syllabus

Will be moved to a Subpage.
